AN Overview

Cask Selection & Storage

Rated 4.9/5 on Trustpilot

How We Store
Investment Whisky

We age our spirit in a carefully curated range of casks, each chosen for the specific influence it will impart:

Ex-bourbon barrels

from American distilleries lend soft vanilla, honey, and toasted oak notes.

Sherry butts

primarily from Spain, bring deep, rich layers of dried fruit, spice, and nuttiness.

Special finishes

including rum, port, and wine casks — add complexity to select expressions.

Each cask is meticulously logged with a unique cask ID, filling date, spirit type, and strength. Regular sampling and monitoring ensure every cask reaches its full potential before it’s considered ready.

Protecting Heritage

Scotch Whisky Regulations

We are proud to uphold the legal and quality standards that protect the heritage of Scotch whisky. Under The Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, our maturation process adheres to the following key requirements. These regulations not only ensure consistency and quality — they
preserve the legacy of one of Scotland’s most iconic exports.

01

It must be aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years.

02

It may contain no additives other than water and (optionally) caramel coloring (E150a).

03

It must be bottled at no less than 40% ABV.

04

All warehousing and maturation must take place within Scotland to legally be called Scotch whisky.

The Angel's Share

During maturation, a small percentage of spirit naturally evaporates through the wood — known affectionately as the “angel’s share.” While this annual loss is bittersweet, it plays a vital role in developing the whisky’s aroma and flavour as it interacts with the cask and the surrounding air.

This also means that whisky is classified as a ‘wasting asset’ and is not liable for capital gains tax whilst it remains maturing in bond.

Craftmanship at Every Stage

Our team works closely with every cask, drawing samples, assessing development, and determining when each whisky has reached the peak of its potential. Whether it rests for 8 years or 30, the decision to bottle is guided by our expertise.

Insurance

All casks are covered by specialist insurance policies to protect against loss, theft, fire, or damage. As these casks often represent significant financial value, especially as they mature, insurance is a crucial safeguard.
