UK to join trade bloc removing 80% whisky export tariff
We are pleased to advise that the UK has joined a trade bloc of 11 countries which will enable the UK to remove the 80% tariff on Whisky exports to Malaysia.
Rishi Sunak announced that the UK will join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) a vast free trade area spanning Indo-Pacific between 11 countries: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
Exports of Scotch Whisky to the CPTPP has grown significantly in the past decade reaching more than £1.1 billion in 2022. Joining the CPTPP will enable the UK to trade more freely with all 11 countries and help gain an even larger share of the market.
