Scotland’s whisky industry is thriving!

The New York Times has recently reported on the booming whisky business in Scotland.

Despite the turbulent times faced by Britain’s economy, Scotland’s whisky producers are reported to be doing exceptionally well and reaping considerable benefits due to the pound’s sharp drop which has made their products more accessible and affordable to buyers around the globe.

Published 21st October 2022,  the article in the New York Times goes on to provide information according to government data which reveals the extent that whisky exports from Britain have grown over the past two years, in fact, the volume of whisky exports has made a 10.5% jump in the 12 months ending July compared with the same period a year earlier.

Scotland’s Whisky industry growth

Scotland’s whisky industry is thriving having seen a rise in exports due to increasing demand both here and abroad in particular the United States and Asia Pacific region. This demand has enabled 20 new distilleries to open since 2016 which means Scotland now boasts an impressive 141 distilleries!

According to the Scotch Whisky Association there are 44 bottles of Scotch Whisky exported every second around the world. As well as around 22 million casks which lie maturing in warehouses in Scotland equating to about 12bn 70cl bottles.
